State of Michigan Files Emergency Appeal of Temporary Restraining Order Preventing Closure of Casinos

The State of Michigan filed on Friday, September 28, 2007 an emergency appeal to the Michigan Court of Appeals, seeking an immediate hearing to vacate the Temporary Restraining Order issued earlier that afternoon by Wayne County Circuit Judge William Giovan.

The Detroit Free Press account does not indicate when a response from the Court of Appeals can be expected. The Detroit News account indicates that the Court of Appeals is expected to review the matter on Monday, October 1, 2007, based upon a quote from a spokesperson for the Michigan Attorney General's Office. Michigan Poker Blog has investigated the docket entries on the Michigan Court of Appeals' website, and learned that an answer is due from the casinos before 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2007. Such a scheduling demand from the Court of Appeals Clerk's Office indicates that a response can be expected from the Michigan Court of Appeals on the same day.
